    Hayakawa’s book “Language in Thought and Action” was the required textbook in an adolescent psychology course I endured in graduate school.
    Go figure.
    Hayakawa went on to be a US Senator (Republican, of course) who became well-known for dozing off during speeches–some of them his own.
